Olympics Opening Ceremony

BEIJING – The Games of the XXIX Olympiad opened spectacularly Friday night in China's distinct, ever-expanding red glow.
The dazzling fireworks reached all the way to the ancient Great Wall, and the masses, nearing 100,000, waved the host nation's flag during the opening ceremony at the National Stadium, the architectural wonder known as the Bird's Nest.

35,000 fireworks will be launched from 1,800 sites around the city for the opening ceremony

The sky is brightly lit. It is a sleepless night of Beijing...

Drawing an estimated worldwide audience of 4 billion reaffirms that these Beijing Games will be marked by China's rapidly increasing presence in sport, and certainly, the world.
